The recent global WannaCry ransomware attack is a wakeup call for businesses as to what can happen if they fail to implement effective cyber security measures. The immediate financial loss in recovering data although significant is likely to be much less than losses caused by the on-going reputational damage to the business brand. Investors were quick to spot an opportunity with the NASDAQ CTA Cyber Security Index up 3% on the day following the WannaCry attack.
