Press release Coveted, beautiful, innovative: these 25 luxury companies from Germany are among the best Munich (9 June 2016). According to the current ranking, manufacturers of watches and precision optical devices are playing the most important role among German luxury brands, closely followed by companies in the kitchen and car segments. This is the result of the current “Top 25 luxury companies in Germany” ranking that is being presented at today’s Luxury Business Day in Munich. With the luxury market’s volume in 2015 having increased by five percent compared to the previous year and therefore having broken through the sales mark of EUR 1 billion, experts are also reckoning on stable figures in 2016, despite global crises and the devaluation of the euro. As the initiator of the Luxury Business Day and founder of Inlux, Petra-Anna Herhoffer says, companies that can adapt to the customers’ new requirements for individuality and sustainability can profit above all. The luxury companies Montblanc, Leica, A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte and Bulthaup lead the ranking list this year again. There has been very little movement in the top five places compared to the previous year. More dramatic changes can be observed lower down though. For example, Bechstein Piano is ranked in the Top 10 German luxury companies for the first time. The jewellery brand Tamara Comolli has climbed a total of 14 places from 39th to 25th place and therefore takes the title of Top Climber. The Top New Entrant to the ranking list is the company Buben & Zörweg, which is impressing watch lovers with a high quality standard, innovation and pioneering work. Florian Huber, partner at EY: “The prospects for the luxury sector in Germany are still very promising, as the customers’ awareness for top quality and perfection remains unchanged.” As the ranking for the Top 25 luxury companies in Germany shows, the success of German luxury companies is based on the components craftsmanship, engineering and design in 2016 too. He went on to say that owner-managed companies in particular are among the climbers. Gerd Giesler, CEO of Journal International and co-organizer of the Luxury Business Day: “Luxury has been more than a prestigious purchase and glamour shopping trend for a long time. With experienced consumers in particular, luxury contributes to the improvement of one’s inner self on both a mental and physical level.” According to Giesler, this means for brands that they “have to offer service and memorable experiences, which go far beyond the actual product.” Inlux and EY are identifying Germany’s top luxury companies for the fourth time this year with the current ranking. To highlight the most dynamic manufacturers of luxury goods (no service providers) the ranking was reduced from 50 companies to the Top 25 for the first time, resulting in a significantly clearer picture of the top performers. An expert jury nominated 120 brands from a long list of 250 luxury companies for the ranking. The total score in the ranking consists of a hard (“facts”) and soft (“emotions”) score. The overall ranking is therefore made up of a rational component with rather hard, cognitive criteria and an intuitive component with rather soft, emotional criteria. Digitalisation as a megatrend, brand loyalty, personal benefits for consumers and sustainability are also incorporated into the ranking. About the Luxury Business Day:
