Robert Walters Switzerland AG: Employers in Switzerland need to reassess recruitment strategies to secure the best talent in Switzerland
Zurich. The first half of 2016 was characterised by active hiring among businesses in Switzerland, of both permanent and interim professionals, according to the Robert Walters Swiss Market Update. Demand for staff is expected to continue for the remainder of the year as Switzerland benefits from its profile as a stable and growing economy. However, as companies set their sights on growth and vacancy levels consequently increase, the supply of talent cannot quite keep up. Therefore, demand for talent is outstripping supply, and hiring managers need to work hard to attract the people they require. There has been particularly strong demand for legal and compliance professionals within financial services, as financial regulation continues to dominate the business agenda. Across commerce native language accountants are particularly sought after, especially among Swiss businesses. However, international firms are more open to taking talent from abroad. Nick Dunnett, Managing Director of Robert Walters Switzerland & Germany said: “The jobs market in Switzerland is buoyant, with business confidence driving a surge in vacancies. Candidates currently have a good choice of opportunities to pursue, but businesses have to reassess their recruitment strategies to secure the talent they need. However, with an open-minded and flexible approach they can succeed.” There is also a trend towards hiring more interim staff in Switzerland. Across all sectors, Despite the competition to secure the best candidates, permanent salaries in Switzerland have broadly remained unchanged and there has been a cool down of inflated pay and bonuses. Candidates are more realistic, and even at senior levels people are taking salary reductions or moving for the same pay as they seek better career progression or work-life balance. Nick Dunnett concludes: “As pay is not the most decisive factor for many candidates when choosing a job, businesses in some areas have to look at other benefits they can offer. Certainly for the foreseeable future, the jobs market in Switzerland will be candidate-led and a high demand for talent will remain.” Robert Walters is one of the world’s leading specialist professional recruitment consultancies and focuses on placing high calibre professionals into permanent, interim and temporary positions at all levels of seniority.
