Der Konzernumsatz der Monate 1-9/1999 beträgt ATS 2.217 Mio
(1-9/1998:ATS 2.243 Mio), was rund 60% des voraussichtlichen
Jahresumsatzes entspricht. Hier soll darauf hingewiesen

Group sales turnover in the months 1-9/1999 came to ATS 2217 m
(1-9/1998: ATS 2243 m) comprising around 60% of the total turnover
expected for the year as a whole. Not for the first time, it should
be pointed out that the pattern in the fire-fighting equipment
business is always for turnover to rise sharply towards the end of the year.
Owing to the lower levels of Group sales than expected in the annual
plan, and to the deferral of some deliveries (worth around ATS 200 m) into
the 4th Quarter, the Result from ordinary activities is only just in the black,
at ATS 1 m (1-9/1998:ATS 50 m). In line with last year’s 4th Quarter
operating result, however, the Management expects the high delivery
volumes for the 4th Quarter of 1999 to translate into a Result
from ordinary activities of around ATS 80 – 100 m.
In Argentina, following prolonged negotiations, the Group has been successful
in increasing its stake in Tecin-Rosenbauer SA from 25.5% to 51%. This
will enable the Rosenbauer Group to exercise direct influence on the
increasingly important South American markets.
Orders
The Rosenbauer Group received new orders worth ATS 2.8 bn during the first
three quarters of 1999 (1-9/1998: ATS 2.6 bn). Order books at the end of
September 1999 totalled ATS 3.1 bn (30.09.1998:ATS 3.1 bn), meaning
that the Group’s main production facilities will continue to enjoy a good
level of capacity utilisation. However, the intensified price competition is
squeezing the Group’s earnings.
Particular attention should be drawn to an order received by the Group’s
Spanish company for 56 fire-fighting vehicles – worth ATS 74 m – from the
Dominican Republic. These vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in the
summer of the year 2000. This is the largest single order in the history of
Rosenbauer Espanola since its establishment in 1983.
Outlook
The public-sector austerity drive is still verymuch being felt in the
European fire-fighting equipment industry. Despite the shrinking
international market volume, manufacturers’ capacity has remained largely
unchanged. This, in turn, has caused the price competition tointensify
still further.
As well as through rigorous cost-control programmes, the Rosenbauer Group
is combating this trend by developing new products with a significantly
enhanced cost/benefit ratio. The new Panther FL generation of air crash
tenders, for example, more than 60 of which are to be delivered in the year
2000, has proved to be one of the most successful new product development
of recent years.
For the year as a whole, the Management expects that total Group sales
turnover will come to around ATS 3.6 bn, and that the Result from ordinary
activities will be of the order of ATS 80 – 100 m.
