Munich, March01, 2001 – According to preliminary figures released today,
mediantis AG / buecher.de more than doubled its Group sales during the 2000
business year despite tougher competition, thus reinforcing its market position
as one of the Germany’s Big Three online booksellers. Revenues increased by 140
percent to approx. DM 38 million (1999: DM 15.8 million). The net loss for the
year was approx. DM 25 million (1999: net loss of DM 11.5 million). Investments
to establish the brand were rigorously and successfully made, as evidenced by
almost DM 19 million in marketing expenditure.
mediantis AG / buecher.de aims to increase sales by at least 50 percent in the
2001 business year, by consistently developing its business platform into an
online department store for media and cultural products. The net loss of the
Group in 2001 is to be reduced to less than 25 percent of sales, by improving
gross margins and by boosting the efficiency of marketing and personnel.
Detailed information on the 2000 business year and the outlook for 2001 will be
released at a press conference to be hosted by mediantis AG / buecher.de on
March 28, 2001.
