Heliocentris Fuel Cells AG: Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG acquires P21 GmbH out of insolvency
Heliocentris Fuel Cells AG / Key word(s): Acquisition 17.06.2011 / 13:00 Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG acquires P21 GmbH out of insolvency * Growth spurt through access to the global telecoms market as well as to innovative products expected * Approval of Creditors' Assembly granted on 16 June Corporate News Berlin - 17 June 2011. Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG, a leading specialist in environmentally-friendly energy storage solutions from Berlin, acquired all assets and the workforce of around 20 people of the insolvent P21 GmbH - Power for the 21st Century via a new subsidiary on 13 May 2011. The Creditors' Assembly approved the takeover by Heliocentris on 16 June. The insolvent P21 GmbH specialised in efficient energy solutions for the telecommunications industry. It was founded in 2001 as a buy-out by former employees of Mannesmann AG and filed for insolvency in March 2011. After minimal revenues in the previous years P21 managed a significant growth step to around EUR 1 million revenue in 2010 what demonstrates the beginning market introduction of their products and solutions. 'For a long time, we have regarded company acquisitions as a growth option and we monitor the market very closely', says Dr. Henrik Colell, CEO of Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG. 'With this, our first takeover, we are now reinforcing our position as a supplier of de-centralized, efficient and clean energy solutions and strengthening our core area of expertise in the field of energy management. This step will also accelerate our entry into industrial business. We are expecting the existing access to the global telecommunications market and the innovative products of P21 to give Heliocentris an additional growth spurt. Promising negotiations with regard to major projects are already ongoing.' In addition, the take-over is happening at the right time since the telecommunications industry is currently going through an upheaval, according to Colell. There is a considerable degree of competition among the operators manifesting itself in increasing price pressure. Given that the energy and service costs make up a considerable part of the operating costs, the search for ways to reduce these costs is currently at the top of the agenda for operators. This is where the products and expertise of P21 GmbH come into play. P21 focuses on the telecommunications industry, and has excellent contacts in this area thanks to the long time professional background of many of its employees in this industry. The P21 brand will therefore be kept given its high awareness in the telecommunication industry, what should support the future sales of its solutions. 'We will combine the strengths of P21 and our own strengths optimally in order to move both companies forward and to grow in the telecoms market', says Colell confidently. About the products of P21: P21 has a strong base in the field of energy management and has developed a scalable energy management platform in recent years. Using this platform, hybrid energy solutions, i.e. those based on multiple technologies (batteries, diesel generators, photovoltaics, wind), can be combined in such a way that highly reliable and efficient power solutions are created. This platform was recently launched on the market and is already in successful commercial use in Zimbabwe and Indonesia. Successful tests have already been performed in the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, India, Mozambique and the Philippines. P21 currently offers two commercial solutions on the basis of this energy management platform: 'genset efficiency' and 'monitoring and control'. 'Genset efficiency' allows diesel consumption to be optimised through the hybridisation of diesel generators with batteries. Customers can make savings of up to 70% of the operating costs with regard to Energy, mainly saving diesel. 'Especially the rising oil prices support the market introduction of this technology.' adds Dr. Andras Gosztonyi, CFO of Heliocentris Energy Solutions AG. 'Monitoring and control' involves the remote monitoring and remote control of plants (e.g. base stations in the case of the telecommunications industry). This solution permits continuous operation of systems which would otherwise would needed to be visited by maintenance staff regularly. This, in turn, allows high cost savings to be made, particularly in the field of services. Given the positioning of P21 in the telecommunications industry, the company is focusing besides smaller project business on large scale projects. Target customers are primarily telecommunications providers which use networks of base stations. The prices of the solutions of P21 vary depending on the scale of the solution between a few thousand and a few tenthousand Euros per station. The number of stations of the operators also vary between a few dozen and a few thousand. Since the solutions of P21 are targeting off grid stations with autonomous power supply, the major target markets are in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. In addition, P21 is currently developing solutions with which customers can operate fully autonomous energy systems using photovoltaics and wind power, and so can wave goodbye to diesel generators completely. Heliocentris has also been developing hybrid, autonomous energy supply systems for some time now. The first such systems have already been installed in Germany and the Middle East. In the future, both companies will combine their expertise in order to take on a leading role in this market of the future.
