Founded
The Group has been organized within a holding structure since 1996. The parent company Helvetia Patria Holding directly or indirectly owns both Patria Leben and Helvetia Versicherungen. Major shareholder of the insurance group is the Patria Co-operative, with 30 percent of the shares (mid of 2007).

Helvetia focuses its activities on three core markets Switzerland, Germany and Austria, two developing markets: Italy and Spain and operates in niche markets, such as transport insurance (France), and assumed reinsurance.
